Sizing & Fit

How do I measure my child’s feet at home?

Grab a blank piece of paper and place it against a wall. Ask your little one to stand on it with their heel and longest toe touching the edges. Mark where the longest toe ends and measure the distance in centimetres. Do this for both feet and go with the larger measurement. You can also download our printable guide.

To support healthy foot growth, experts recommend allowing 0.8–1.2 cm of extra space inside the shoe. Then, compare that size with the corresponding brand chart of your choice.

How muchspace should I leave for the growing room?

Tiny toes need room to wiggle. For early walkers, 6–10 mm of space is usually enough, while confident walkers do well with around 12 mm plus a little extra. Check that they can walk without tripping and adjust if needed.

How often should I check their size?

Children’s feet can grow surprisingly quickly, sometimes up to two sizes in a month. We suggest measuring every 6–8 weeks for toddlers and at least every three months for older children, so you know when it’s time to size up.

What ifI’m between sizes or order the wrong one?

Not sure which size will fit? Order two pairs and try them on at home – many retailers allow this as long as you return the unused pair in perfect condition. At Cheekytoes, we offer free exchanges within 28 days, so getting the right fit is
stress‑free.

Do your shoes suit all foot shapes?

Our barefoot styles are designed to adapt to slim, chubby, narrow or chunky feet thanks to flexible materials and adjustable fastenings. If your child has medical needs, it’s always best to speak with a podiatrist before buying.

Should I buy a bigger size so they can “grow into them”?

It can be tempting, especially with how quickly children grow, but shoes that are too large can actually do more harm than good. Oversized shoes may cause discomfort, rubbing and unstable walking patterns, which can affect natural foot development. The best option is always a properly fitted size with the recommended growing room already included.

I’ve measured their feet and ordered their shoes how can I check the fit is correct?

A simple and very effective trick is to remove the insole from the shoe (many of our barefoot styles include removable insoles) and place your child’s foot on top of it while standing. This gives you a quick visual check to see whether the length and growing room are appropriate.

How often should I measure my child’s feet?

Children’s feet grow surprisingly fast, especially during the early years. As a general guide, we recommend measuring every few weeks for children under 2 years old, and every 2–3 months for older children. If they suddenly seem uncomfortable or start tripping more often, it’s always worth checking again sooner.
